MESL Win Environmental Contract for Thames Development

MESL in partnership with EcoNorth was recently been commissioned by Idom Merebrook to carry out a pre-construction baseline survey of the proposed Standard Wharf redevelopment site situated alongside the inner Thames Estuary, Kent. Standard Wharf is a historically important anchorage site and the work undertaken will maximise the site’s commercial potential, expanding on the existing facilities and to allow vessels to operate from the wharf.

The overall aim of the project is to undertake several field surveys and desk-based studies to supply deliverables in support of the re-development of Standard Wharf. MESL has been responsible for conducting an extended Phase I survey of the intertidal mudflats, conducting a Habitat Regulation Assessment (HRA) and a non-statutory ecological appraisal of the proposed development, as well as identifying a potential ecological enhancement programme for Standard Wharf alongside EcoNorth. So far, this has been a highly interesting project and it is anticipated that MESL will continue to work closely with Idom Merebrook over the course of the initial project stages.
